The museum was established in 1913 and is located in a former craftman’s house which was mentioned in documents dating back as far as the 14th Century. It provides visitors with an insight into typical interiors for the region.
Other exhibition rooms showcase special local features like the fishing trade, the famous Prien hat and the region’s traditional dress.
Visitors can expect craftsmanship, a “Biedermeier room”, a manger room and religious folk art. The museum is also home to special exhibitions and traditional events.

“Saints and mangers” 26 November to 10 January: The painter Bartholomäus Wappmannsberger (1894 to 1984 in Prien) made his name with his nativity scenes and religious pictures at the Bavarian National Museum in Munich. In 1954 he painted the 30 metre background for the nativity scene of Einsiedek in Switzerland. He is also known for his portraits and landscape paintings.
